Couple facing charges after apparent murder/suicide attempt

LOXLEY, Ala. – A Rosinton man and his wife are facing charges after an apparent murder/suicide attempt Thursday morning.

Lt. Doug Phillips with the Loxley Police Department reported Thursday that James Morrow, 70, and Anne Morrow, 65, of Patterson Road, walked into the Loxley Police Department just after 8 a.m. Thursday morning, both suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. According to a release from the BCSO, the couple stated they both agreed to the act because of financial hardships and attempted to carry out the act inside their Ford F150 truck on Campbell Road, near the intersection of County Road 68.

“James Morrow used a small caliber pistol to shoot Anne in the back of the head and then turn the gun to his own head, firing it again,” the release stated.

James Morrow then drove the truck to the Loxley Police Department and contacted authorities.

Major Anthony Lowery with the BCSO stated Friday that Anne Morrow was LifeFlighted and James Morrow was taken by ambulance to USA Medical Center in Mobile.

“It appears that what they had were essentially flesh wounds,” he said. “She might have suffered a small fracture to her neck.”

According to the BCSO release, both subjects were interviewed at the hospital. In addition, a note was located inside the vehicle and has been recovered by investigators.

While charges have yet to be filed, Lowery said, James Morrow is facing attempted murder charges. Anne Morrow will also be facing charges, he said.

“Attempted murder is attempted murder,” he said. “We will have to work with the DA’s office to determine what other charges need to be filed, but suicide is illegal in the state of Alabama.”
