ROBERTSDALE, Alabama --- The Robertsdale City Council and Silverhill Town Council both voted to certify elections for five of their 12 available seats that have no opposition for the municipal elections later this month.

In Robertsdale, Sue Cooper and Paul Hollingsworth will not face opposition in the Aug. 28 elections, while in Silverhill Mayor Timothy Wilson and incumbent Council member Shirley Stevens qualified unopposed. Michael Allegri Jr. also qualified unopposed in Silverhill and will assume the Council position vacated by Steve Brooks.

Allegri was appointed to fill a vacated Town Council seat in 2005 before losing to Bert Jones in the 2008 election. Brooks, who narrowly defeated Toni Norden for the 2008 election, decided not to run in 2012 after serving over 20 years on the Silverhill Town Council. Norden will take on Jared Lyles later this month while her husband, Alan Norden, who lost to Wilson for the mayoral seat in 2008, will take on incumbent Council member Wayne Gruenloh, and former mayor Frankie Kucera will run against incumbent Bert Jones.

In Robertsdale, Mayor Charles Murphy will face opposition from Roger Booth while incumbents Joe Kitchens and Brent Kendrick qualified to run against Earl Colley and Lisa Wallace Lee respectively.

Aubrey Grant Jr. will seek to fill his father’s council seat, running against two opponents, Jason W. Dixon and Ruthie Campbell.

The Robertsdale City Council voted unanimously with all council members present Monday night to adopt Resolution No. 012-12 certifying Cooper’s election, and Resolution No. 013-12 to certify Hollingsworth’s election.

They also voted unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 011-12 appointing Paul M. McKinney as election inspector with Helen Peterson, Doris Jarrell, Patty Sykes, Carolyn Fedlak and Alexander Fedlak appointed as clerks.

Silverhill voted unanimously to adopt resolutions 475 (Wilson), 476 (Allegri) and 477 (Stevens), voting first to suspend the rules, then voting to adopt the ordinances by roll-call vote. Council member Bert Jones was not present at Monday’s meeting.
