City council members on Monday approved the waiver of fees for a number of upcoming events in the city.
Fees regarding use of the Civic Center were waived for a “welcome” breakfast on July 21 for new county school superintendent, Dr. Alan Lee. Fees were also waived for Habitat for Humanity’s use of Heritage Park on Oct. 22-23, 2010, for the organization’s chili cook-off.
Approval was given for a Project Care request to use Aaronville Park for a free sports camp July 19-21 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., subject to clarification of an insurance issue in connection with the event.
Approval was also given for use of the Heritage Park gazebo during the annual Hispanic Festival on Oct. 17, 2010.
The council also approved the waiver of Board of Adjustments and Appeals’ fees for a Riviera Utlities’ substation.
A resolution approving exemption of project user fees at Tanger Outlet during the state’s sales tax holiday Aug. 6-8, 2010, was approved.
Funding totaling over $46,000 was approved on separate votes for a stamped concrete/trellis project in connection with alleyways in the downtown area.
The council memorialized a $21,900 grant through Project Safe Neighborhoods that requires no matching funds. Also, a resolution was memorialized accepting a Department of Justice grant in the amount of $12,595 to purchase additional equipment for the Police Department’s response team.
A public hearing was set declaring weeds to be a public nuisance and ordering abatement at 1819 Candlestick Ct. E., 503 and 505 E. Michigan Ave., 5 Canterberry Cir., and a vacant lot on West Rose Avenue.
Approval was also given for vacation of rights of way for a portion of Baldwin Street (Councilman Wayne Trawick abstained), and for the first reading of an ordinance approving the Planning Commission’s recommendation for initial zoning of Extended Business District for 22 acres annexed into the city by legislative act. The latter, located on the south side of the Foley Beach Express and east of County Road 28, is owned by Universal Properties LLC.
The council also approved the following board appointments: Will Hunt as alternate on the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals; Erick Crosby as full member on the CBAA; John Cobb to Museum and Archives; and Lee Kibler to the Revitalization & Beautification Board.
