BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A public hearing is scheduled tonight concerning congressional and state school board redistricting, based on the 2010 decennial census.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at Tillman’s Corner Community Center, 5055 Carol Plantation Road in Mobile.
The Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment will conduct the hearing, which is one of six planned statewide, according to a news release from the Alabama State House.
As a result of the 2010 census, the Legislature is required to redraw congressional and state school board lines to comply with the one-person, one-vote requirement of the Constitution, and the representation requirement of the state Constitution.
It is important for the citizens of Baldwin County to express their views, especially since Baldwin County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States,” said Baldwin County Probate Judge Tim Russell.”
Written statements are not required, but the committee is encouraging the submission of written statements and a brief summary of the statements at the hearing. Anyone who cannot attend can send comments to Alabama State House, 11 South Union St., Room 811, Montgomery, AL 36130-4600.
