Baldwin County and surrounding areas experienced freezing temperatures accompanied by ice this week and some freezing rain, especially in the northern areas of the county.
Ice could be seen on plants, vehicles and homes after rain fell and temperatures dropped to 20 degrees.
The National Weather Service in Mobile issued a notice on Jan. 13, stating, "Dangerously cold temperatures are anticipated to follow the front on Tuesday, especially into Tuesday night. Tuesday's highs are currently projected to range from the mid to upper 30s west of I-65 to the low to mid 40s for areas east of I-65."
In Fairhope, temperatures dropped to a low of 19 degrees, Daphne 18, Bay Minette 16, Gulf Shores 21 and Foley 19.
Due to the severe cold weather, Baldwin County Public Schools and some private schools on the Eastern Shore canceled classes Tuesday, some Eastern Shore and North Baldwin County businesses closed, and a bridge in Bay Minette shut down due to ice sticking to the roads.
According to the National Weather Service, this region has not witnessed temperatures below 19 degrees since 2002.
Though it will be a cold weekend, in the coming days, temperatures are expected to rise as the cold weather moves out of the area.
