DAPHNE, Ala.—Daphne Mayor Fred Small’s “Coffee with the Mayor” event will focus on a topic Jane Ellis, assistant to the mayor, said was especially pertinent.
Guest speaker Lisa Dunn, area director of the Alabama chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will speak about suicide prevention during the event.
Ellis plans the six speakers for the year’s events in advance, and she picked suicide prevention as a discussion topic since suicide is statistically on the rise.
“I plan them out for every year,” Ellis said. “This was one we thought would be of interest since it has been on the rise over the past year with the economy and everything.”
“These events are to keep the citizens informed in not only things that might be of interest to them, but the (city) department heads are also always present,” Ellis said.
Small hosts these events on the last Thursday of every other month at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall. The next event will be held on May 26.
