Coffee with the Mayor guest scheduled to speak on Baldwin County homelessness

Posted

DAPHNE, Ala.—The bi-monthly Daphne fixture, “Coffee with the Mayor,” is next scheduled for Jan. 27 at 8:30 a.m. in City Hall, and the event is scheduled to have McKemie Place, a Mobile-based homeless shelter for women, present on their program and what the facility does for Baldwin County.

Women go in the evening, receive a meal and a bed to sleep in and then are out by 7 a.m. the next morning, mayor's assistant Jane Robbins said.

“People are more aware of homelessness in downtown (Mobile), and there’s no downtown here,” Robbins said. “It’s not as prevalent in Baldwin County, but there are homeless women here that this shelter serves.”

The shelter serves homeless women in Washington County, Mobile County and Baldwin County, and Robbins said the shelter’s manager, Christine Greene, lives in Daphne.

“Coffee with the Mayor” happens on the last Thursday of every other month at 8:30 a.m. in City Hall.
