Clean Coast Web site set to launch in April

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau will be utilizing the World Wide Web in an effort to protect the coast.

The CVB will soon be launching a Clean Coast Partnership Web site funded by a grant awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Coast Services Center. The Web site will be a supportive site of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance, per information released by the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

“The goal is for the Web site to be a resource for green or environmentally friendly resources in the area,” CVB special projects director Colette Boehm said. “It will offer information for residents and businesses as well as visitors.”

According to Boehm, the Clean Coast Partnership is a cooperative effort between both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, its business owners, the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce and the CVB.

“The content of the site will include tips for environmentally friendly practices, lists of services available throughout the island and links to other sources of information,” Boehm said.

The site press release states information available will “educate the public about the effect their individual behavior has on the local environment, promote the variety of ‘clean and green’ alternatives currently accessible and present the direct tie between behavior change and environmental issues.”

The Gulf of Mexico Alliance is a partnership among Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Its goal is to enhance the ecological and economic health of the Gulf by working together as a coalition.

“The entire partnership is an effort to engage more people in taking responsibility for the sustainability of our resources and our environment,” Boehm said. “We want to help people see that each of our actions directly relate to the health of our natural resources — our most valuable assets as a community nd a destination- and to offer resources for how we can all act more responsibly.”

The CVB is aiming to launch the site in April to coincide with the chamber of commerce’s Green Expo which will be held on Earth Day.
