• Carnley, Davis pitch No. 10 Golden Bears to Class 6A first-round playoff series sweep over Citronelle 11-1, 13-1

ROBERSTDALE, Ala.— In the opener, the No. 10 Golden Bears (27-11) scored four runs in the first and made it an 11-1, 10-run victory in the bottom of the sixth-inning at Kevin Raley Field. Will Carnley (8-2) got the matinee win. The senior went six innings with seven strikeouts and four walks, scattered five hits and one earned run. Carnley, Trevor Corte, Trevor Davis and Tyler Reeves each had two hits. Corte, Davis and Evan Robertson had three RBIs each.

“We were able to get off to great starts in the first inning of each game,” said RHS head coach Peter Bezeredi. “Will Carnley and Trevor Davis both pitched great games. When both of those guys throw a lot of strikes, they give a chance to win. We were able to have some quality at bats through out the lineup.”

In the nightcap, Robertsdale scored five runs in the first inning en route to another six-inning, 13-1 victory. Davis (5-1) struck out nine in a one-hit, one run, one walk victory. Brandon Broussard had three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Robertson had two hits and two RBIs.

The Bears will host the winner of the Baldwin County at Saraland, Game Three contest today (April 23, 1 p.m start.) Round two is set to start Friday, April 29 at 5 p.m.
