Clarence Rufus Mosely

Clarence Rufus Mosely, 82, of Foley, Alabama, passed away on May 26, 2023. He was born on July 28, 1940, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Lollie and Guyzelle Mosely. Rufus was a kind, loyal and generous man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Rufus graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and went on to attend the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity.

After graduation, he joined the Alabama Air National Guard in Birmingham, Alabama, and was assigned to USAF pilot training at then-Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama. He returned to the 106th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in Birmingham, where he flew the RF-84 and RF-4 for approximately seven years.

In addition to his military service, Rufus had a successful career as a captain for Trans World Airlines. He was a skilled pilot who loved flying and the freedom it provided. In retirement, he enjoyed the company of other "senior" pilots as a member of Ancient Aviators of South Alabama.

When he wasn’t in the cockpit, Rufus could often be found playing his guitar or banjo. He was a talented musician who loved to entertain his family and friends. A member of the Gulf Shores Methodist Church, he found strength and comfort in his faith there.

Rufus is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and his sons, Michael, Tyler (Sheri) and John (Jana). He is also survived by five grandsons, Aaron, Justin, William, Tyler and Rufus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lollie and Guyzelle Mosely.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Methodist Church in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rufus can be made to the American Heart Association.
