"font-family:">Clara Simms Street, a longtime resident of Daphne, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
"font-family:">She was born on Jan. 29, 1926 to Benjamin and Lena Simms in Belforest.
"font-family:">Married to the love of her life, Ross, Clara traveled the United States and parts of Europe as a Navy wife. Once retired and returned to her beautiful Alabama, she became quite active in community affairs.
"font-family:">She was a founding member of the Lake Forest Community Club and was active for 30 years, a member of the Lake Forest Garden Club for 28 years and a member of the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary Association. She also held various offices in these organizations over the years, and she arranged and participated in many special events.
"font-family:">The projects she most cherished were being the chairperson of the annual Mercy Medical Christmas Party and dying eggs for the Easter egg hunts for children.
"font-family:">Always happy to visit with classmates, she joined the committees to organize the Fairhope High Class of 1944 Reunions.
"font-family:">She is predeceased by her stepdaughter, Sharon Deardon, who died in September of this year.
"font-family:">Clara is survived by her devoted and beloved husband, Ross; son, Butch Street of Denver, Colo.; daughters, Marcia Kennedy of Ocean Springs, Miss., Mary Elliott of San Diego, Calif. and Essie Martin of Salinas, Calif.; brothers, Roy Simms of Belforest and Edward Simms of Fairhope; her sister, Mildred Foster of Belforest; grandchildren, Ian, Rhea, Kelly, Samantha, Noah, Rachelle, Sarah and Ryan; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
"font-family:">Her family wishes to thank her dearest neighbors, Dottie and Richard Zimmer, as well as Comfort Keepers and their workers for her care these last few years.
"font-family:">A memorial serivce will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m.
"font-family:">In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
