Clara Cody Dennis, 75, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015.
A native of Bessemer and resident of Foley since 1968, Clara was involved with her communities both at home and abroad in Bedford, England.
Joined in marriage to Gary for 58 years, she was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debra Dennis Peed (Lee) and Donna Dennis Surry (George). She was also an exceptionally involved grandmother to Steadman, Cortland and Chesley Peed, and Hunter Lolley (Rick) as well as to her two great-grandchildren, Wake and Vivvie Lolley.
A lady of many talents, she enjoyed bowling, painting, sewing, traveling with her husband and friends and last, but certainly not least, anything and everything to do with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Most importantly, Clara was a follower and servant of Jesus Christ and knew that a friend indeed “loveth at all times” (Proverbs 17:17).
Mrs. Clara, affectionately known as “Big,” left a lasting impression on the people she met by her quiet, feisty sense of humor and the simple elegance of how she carried her petite stature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mamie Cody; and her father-in-law, Herbert Dennis.
She is survived by her mother-in-law, Addie Gray Dennis of Shannon; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy Cody Daniel and Edward Daniel of Adger; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Beth Dennis of Shannon; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Dennis Sturges (Alan); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, with a service to follow at noon.
Arrangements by Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley.
