ROBERTSDALE, Ala. - A resolution to accept maintenance of Adams Acres Road In Robertsdale was passed at the City of Robertsdale’s Council meeting Monday morning. 2,400 feet in length and extending eastward from Buck Road, the road has been under the care of the county but the City has annexed approximately 80 percent of the property that fronts the road.
According to the resolution, the City will accept the control, management, supervision, regulation, repair. maintenance and/or improvement of the road and the Baldwin County Commission conveyed a right-of-way to the City as well.
Greg Smith, City Engineer, said there has been some drainage issues with the road and the county engineering department asked the city to take over. “The road is in good shape and the majority of it is in the city limits anyway so it isn’t a problem for us to take it over.”
The council also passed a resolution to amend Ordinance No. 02-10 adopted at the September 23, 2002 council meeting. The zoning ordinance and zoning map has to be amended to honor the request of Betty Ray, whose property is being rezoned from R-1 to B-2 (residential to business)
In other council business, a resolution was passed to adopt Act 98272 that “agrees to provide all funds necessary to the Employees Retirement System to cover the cost of the increase as provided by the Act for those eligible employees (eight) retired from the City of Robertsdale with the increase being effective with the October 1, 2010 benefit payments.”
Ann Simpson, the City’s Chief Financial Officer, said this resolution pertained to the 1998 Cost of Living Allowance.
A motion was also passed to grant an ABC License Request (Retail Beer and Retail Wine -off premises) to Circle K Stores located on 21980 Hwy. 59 North in Robertsdale.
Smith also updated the council on the Children’s Learning Center Daycare addition. “We put out 12 bids for different elements of the construction and have only gotten two competitive bids back on the concrete but they are for the same amount of $16,900.00 so we need to consult our city attorney, Ken Raines, to find out what to do about that.”
The council will negotiate the bids and quotes and bring back additional information at the next meeting, Mayor Charles Murphy said. The price of $105,000 for the addition has already been budgeted and as soon as the concrete bids are worked out, the project will get underway.
The city owns the daycare building and in a letter to the council, Karen Bill, who runs the center, requested the additional space to accommodate 40 new children who will be attending the center. She also agreed to an additional 10 year lease to pay for the building.
Mayor Murphy also informed the council about the “Trunk-or-Treat” event going on at the Robertsdale Public Library on Tuesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m.
