City of Foley continues putting BP funds to work

FOLEY — The city of Foley is still making use of funding it received following the BP oil spill.

During its regular meeting Monday, the Foley City Council approved a resolution enabling it continue receiving the funds through the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.

“This is $250,000 worth of grant money we got in 2010,” Foley Mayor John Koniar said during a work session that preceded Monday’s meeting.

Prior to the vote, he expanded on that explanation.

“We were awarded $250,000,” Koniar said during the meeting. “We’re still working on $138,000.”

He explained that the city has to use the funds on beneficial projects and that additional stipulations are required.

“Every year we have to turn it back in or re-apply,” Koniar said.
