Daphne City Council is considering a PUD modification to the city’s Italian Village project on Monday, May 18.
The Italian Village project is a 32-acre development located on the northwest corner of Alabama State Route 181 and Baldwin County 64, anchored by a Walmart Neighborhood Market and a luxury 200-unit apartment complex. The development also includes eight commercial parcels and a 5-acre public-access pond for walking and recreation.
The PUD modification adds an additional 2.79 acres located north of the original project boundary, while also prezoning and annexing the added property. Charles Trotman Sr., who represents the developer, said the changes were requested in order to move the apartments away from Baldwin County 64 to add two outparcels that would accommodate parking and improve access for emergency services, including the fire department, entering and exiting the property.
The modifications were previously reviewed by the planning commission, which gave unanimous favorable recommendations. The proposal will return to the City Council for a second reading at its next meeting.
