Daphne City Council approved the acceptance of a 258-acre donation from 68 Ventures on Monday, Dec. 4.

The 258.42 acres of undeveloped residential land are situated on the south side of U.S. 90 and east of Hwy. 181 behind the Reserve at Plantation Hills subdivision. The property's southern border extends to the Daphne city limit line.

The appraised value of the property, as of Nov. 27, is $6.2 million and consists of five lots. According to documents included in the meeting agenda packet, Lot 5 and Lot 3 include large sections of wetland areas, and Fish River and Turkey Branch flow through Lot 3.

An addition was made to the resolution to include the verbiage that all closing costs and costs associated with title insurance be paid by the donator, 68 Ventures.

There was no discussion on the donation by council members, and it was passed unanimously.

Gulf Coast Media contacted Mayor Robin LeJeune to inquire if the city had any plans or ideas for the donated property.

“The plan is we have no plan for the 258 acres,” LeJeune said.

The donated property lies just north of the Daphne city limits. LeJeune said the property will annex into the city automatically when the property is transferred to the city.

“It is a great asset to the city, and we are very excited and really appreciative of the donation to the city and the future it could hold,” LeJeune said. “At some point, we would love to see a park or something out there from the city of daphne to engage the community.”
