City moves forward with land swap; council approves funds for appraisal of property

DAPHNE, Ala. — The City Council voted 7-0 to approve the appropriation of up to $1,500 to appraise land called Campbell Swamp.

The Utilities Board owns 18 acres in Campbell Swamp that will be donated to the city in a property swap. The bayfront property will be swapped for a smaller portion of property the utilities board desires, which houses utility equipment.

The city council is also pursuing the purchase of additional property west of the Campbell Swamp property, which has recently been put on the market. The two properties will create 25 contiguous acres.

“We have been working for some period of time about some property swapping between the Daphne Utilities and the city of Daphne. Both attorneys have told me that it is a top priority and we expect it to be placed on the next council agenda,” Councilman Ron Scott said. “It is about to get done and I am excited about it.”
