Boxing champion and domestic violence survivor Christy Martin will be the featured guest at the Baldwin County Drug Court Foundation’s annual Remember, You Can Make a Difference fundraiser on Oct. 15 at the Daphne Civic Center.
Martin, widely regarded as one of the most successful female boxers of all time, will headline the public event, which supports the Baldwin County Drug Court Foundation’s educational and rehabilitative efforts.
The fundraiser is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include a seated dinner prepared by Naman’s Catering. Chastity Byrd Riddick will serve as emcee.
Martin’s life and legacy have been extensively documented. In 2010, she survived a near-fatal domestic violence attack in which she was shot and stabbed, an experience that reshaped her life and purpose. Netflix released "Untold: Deal with the Devil" in August 2021, followed by a biography by Ron Borges in June 2022. Her story was adapted into the major motion picture "Christy," starring Sydney Sweeney, in November 2025. She also appeared in the feature film "Beat Down" in January.
Known as a pioneer, champion, advocate and survivor, Martin continues to inspire audiences through her resilience, leadership and commitment to changing lives both inside and outside the ring.
As part of the evening, the foundation will present a brief program highlighting the Drug Court’s treatment model, community outreach efforts and drug education initiatives in Baldwin County schools. Organizers said the presentation is intended to increase public awareness of the program’s work and impact.
Tickets are available online at www.baldwindrugcourt.com or through Raina Macks at auburnt@hotmail.com. Additional information is available on the organization’s website and Facebook page.
Sponsorship opportunities are available, with levels starting at $400 and increasing with additional benefits and recognition. Proceeds support the Baldwin County Drug Court Foundation's efforts to raise community awareness and provide educational and rehabilitative resources throughout Baldwin County.
The event will be held at the Daphne Civic Center, 2603 U.S. Highway 98 in Daphne.
According to the Baldwin County Drug Court Foundation, approximately 90% of crimes committed in Baldwin County have some connection to drugs and/or alcohol.
The Baldwin County Drug Court was established in 2007 to promote justice and consistency in judicial proceedings while providing educational and rehabilitative services for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. The program aims to reduce future criminal behavior and help participants return to productive lives.
The Baldwin County Drug Court Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization created to support and enhance the Drug Court’s rehabilitative efforts. The foundation provides resources for educational intervention, promotes community awareness and conducts outreach programs focused on substance abuse prevention.
Foundation officials said more than 9,000 middle school students have participated in its educational programs. The outreach effort is driven in part by data showing the average age at which a child first experiments with drugs is 13 years old.
