Christmas events begin this weekend in Central, North Baldwin

After a year of uncertainty, there will be plenty of opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit in Central and North Baldwin.

While some events, such as Bethel Baptist Church’s Walk Through Bethlehem and the annual Polar Express at Derailed Diner, will not return this year, there will be plenty of activities to choose from.


Bay Minette

Polar Express Movie Night will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, 301 McMeans Ave.

The evening will include a free showing of the Christmas movie, as well as other special treats. Bring out your picnic blankets or chairs and set up for a family-friendly night. Families are encouraged to come a little early for Christmas photo opportunities.

Pancakes with Santa will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Station, 42245 Pine Grove Road.

The event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. and outdoor seating will be available. 

 

Bedtime Stories with Santa will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 at the Bay Minette Public Library, 202 W. Second St.

The City of Bay Minette will host its annual Christmas Fest Saturday, Dec. 11 on Courthouse Square.

The 39th annual event will include a number of vendors and food trucks and live entertainment.

The city’s annual Christmas parade is set to roll at 4:30 p.m.

Breakfast with Santa will be held 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Pearl & Addie’s Café, 20 Hand Ave.

The cost is $14 for adults and $10 for children. The event will include a breakfast buffet as well as a hot cocoa bar.

Chef Starla Chapman will whip up her award-winning pancakes and a photographer will be on site to snap pictures with Santa.

Also in North Baldwin

Christmas in Perdido will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at Perdido School, 23589 County Road 47.

Vendors will be set up at the school from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast with Santa will be offered from 8 to 10 a.m.

Christmas at Bicentennial Park will be held Dec. 17-18 at the park, 51233 Alabama 225, Stockton.

Activities will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. both nights and are scheduled to include storytelling, performances by local choirs, free Christmas movies, photos with Santa, refreshments and more fun activities.

This year’s theme is “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”  The 7 p.m. movies to be shown include “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Friday night and “Miracle on 34th Street” on Saturday night.

LOXLEY

Light Up, Loxley! Christmas decorating contest, sponsored by the Loxley Public Library, is currently accepting nominations.
For a fee of $20, local residences (exterior and yard) will be entered into the contest. Judging will take place in the evening hours of Dec. 15-20.

The grand prize winner will receive half of the collected entry fees. Gift cards or certificates will be awarded to two honorable mentions. The winners will receive recognition on the town and library’s social media pages.

The library will be hosting two other events during the month of December to encourage community participation, Hudson said.

Locally made crafts have been donated to the library and will be on sale throughout the month of December, Hudson said.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward improvements to the library.

The library will also host a coloring contest with pictures featuring a holiday theme available with prizes for several age groups.

Pictures can be picked up and returned to the library by Dec. 21, Hudson said.

The Town of Loxley will host its first Christmas in the Park beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10.

The Loxley Christmas parade will follow Alabama 59 north from the Loxley Church of God to the Loxley Municipal Park.

Following the parade there will be a lighting of the tree ceremony, Christmas caroling, a live nativity scene, a Christmas village with elves, food trucks and children’s activities.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos.

Robertsdale
St. Patrick’s Ladies Auxiliary will host its 50th annual Christmas Bazaar Dec. 3 and 4 at St. Patrick’s Center, 23035 Alabama 59, Robertsdale. Doors open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The bazaar includes traditional holiday baked goods including yeast coffee cakes and cinnamon rolls, which are baked on site, along with cookies and cakes available for sale. There will also be a jam stand with jams and jellies made from locally picked fruit.

The bazaar will also feature hand-made items, including afghans, quilted items, soaps, crocheted baby items, Christmas trees and gift baskets.

Proceeds from the bazaar will benefit the parish and the surrounding community, along with St. Patrick School.


The City of Robertsdale will host its annual Christmas in the Park and Parade on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Parade lineup is at 4:30 p.m. at the RHS baseball complex and is set to roll at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will be followed by the annual photos in the park from 7 to 9 p.m. in Honeybee Park. Bring your own camera for photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The Robertsdale Rotary Club sponsors the parade, with the assistance of the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and City of Robertsdale.

Holiday Business After Hours with the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 at First Baldwin Land Title, 23315 Pet Drive, Robertsdale.
Join the chamber for a night of food, refreshments, door prizes and networking. The event will be catered by The Grazing Tree.
Donations of unwrapped toys for young children will be accepted and will go to Kane’s Warrior Kids for children at USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Mobile.

Derek "Kane" Long and Michelle Long, who operate the program, are expected to attend the event to accept donations.

Donations can be dropped off at the chamber office, 25150 Alabama 59, Robertsdale, until 3 p.m. Dec. 14.

Pet Pictures with Santa will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Honeybee Park in Robertsdale.

Hosted by JC Photography, photos are $10 each with a portion of the proceeds going to a local animal shelter.

Organizers ask that all pets be friendly and on a leash. Children are welcome to come and have their photo taken with Santa too.

 

Silverhill
Annual Down Home Christmas will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Silverhill Covenant Church, 16094 Alabama 104, Silverhill.

Handmade crafts will be sold by church members, including wreaths, jewelry, ornaments, crocheted items, quilted items, knitted items, T-shirts and stained glass. Swedish coffee breads will also be sold and poinsettias will be available for purchase.

Small Town Christmas in Silverhill will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3. The parade will line up at the Silverhill Community Center and follow the normal parade route on Alabama 104.

The event will also feature food trucks on the square, entertainment and photos with Santa following the parade. For more information call town hall at 251-945-5198.

Summerdale
The town of Summerdale’s annual Christmas parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. The parade begins on Fourth Street and will travel west on Broadway to Northwest First Street, north to Jefferson, west to West Fourth Street, then south to Broadway, going east on Broadway back to Pioneer Park.
