Christ the King celebration is Nov. 25

The Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile will hold an annual celebration of the Feast of Christ the King Nov. 25.

The celebration will begin with a gathering in Bienville Square in downtown Mobile at 10:30 a.m. lead by Most Rev. Thomas J. Rodi, Archbishop of Mobile.

From there the congregation will process west on Dauphin Street while reciting the Holy Rosary.

Upon entering the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated. Special recognition will be given to this year’s recipients of the Christ the King Medal, who have been nominated by their pastors for extraordinary volunteer efforts for their parish community.

In addition to the many priests of the archdiocese concelebrating with Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi, the congregation will include deacons of the archdiocese, archdiocesan seminarians, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, the Knights of Peter Claver, the Knights of Columbus, the Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Lady Medalists, the Knights of St. Gregory, and the Men of St. Joseph.

This year’s celebration is especially marked by the call from His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, for the Universal Church to celebrate a Year of Faith beginning Oct. 11, 2012 and ending Nov. 24, 2013.

The Year of Faith commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, which transformed the Roman Catholic Church.

Catholics around the world are called to strengthen their faith by study and reflection on the catechism of the Church and the documents of the Second Vatican Council. As our nation observes the Thanksgiving holiday, the Catholic community of the Archdiocese of Mobile will also give thanks to God for the gift of our faith and the religious liberty enjoyed in the United States of America to openly exercise that faith.

The Christ the King celebration in Mobile is a long-standing tradition of parades, public gatherings, and processions of the Catholic faithful. Archbishop Rodi is proud to continue this tradition and all are invited to join the celebration.
