Joan Ellen Cheney, 78, a native of Rhode Island and a resident of Spanish Fort, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 in Mobile.
She attended The Shrine of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Montrose.
Survivors include her husband, Col. Joseph H. Cheney (U.S. Air Force retired) of Spanish Fort; two sons, Col. Joseph “Fred” Cheney (U.S. Air force retired) of San Diego, Lt. Col. John “Jack” Cheney (U.S. Air Force retired) of Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren, Joseph John Cheney, Andrew Alan Cheney, both of Tuscaloosa, Katherine Elizabeth Cheney and Michael Patrick Cheney, both of Newport News.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604 or Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mt. Carmel Road, Danvers, MA, 01923-3796.
