Leon Chavers, 80, born Dec. 6, 1926 in Frisco City, a resident of Foley, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at his home, after a lengthy illness.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church Of Foley. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. as a corporal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 99, for 48 years.

He returned after his service in the military to start a successful plumbing business, Leon’s Plumbing Co. He started his business in 1963 and continued working until retirement, where he could spend time with his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and great friend to many.

The family would like to give special thanks to Odyssey Hospice for giving such care and compassion.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Freddie Chavers; son, Michael (Kim) Chavers; three grandchildren, brother, Erdist (Shirley) Chavers; four aunts, 12 nieces and nephews, six grand-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 25 from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home. Interment followed at Pine Rest Memorial Park, Foley.

Visitation was held Tuesday, April 24 at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Foley, or to the Calvary Baptist Church, Foley.
