Central Christian Saints win big on Senior Night

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama - On Senior Night at Central Christian School, it was the seniors that led the way from start to finish in a convincing 75-44 win over Trinitas Christian.

Seniors Timmy Shelton, Bucky Enfinger, Mark Parsons, and Brad Yockers were honored before the game for their four-plus years playing for the Saints.

“Some of those guys have been playing for me for a long time. Timmy Shelton has been playing with me since the seventh grade,” Central Christian head coach Dan Crotts said. “I surely didn’t want to lose on Senior Night that’s for sure. The way the game started it was looking ugly. As for senior night, I am going to miss those guys.”

For the most part the seniors put up big numbers Friday night, but Timmy Shelton came up big posting 31 points for the Saints and helped them gain control after a rocky first half.

“He is probably the most competitive person I have ever coached,” Crotts said. “We weren’t working well in the first half and I told him and Bucky I need you guys to take over the game and our seniors did what seniors do; they handled the ball, and took care of the game. We still had other people in the game but the bottom line is they took control.”

Shelton scored 15 of his 31 points in the first half to set the tone for the rest of the game. Enfinger finished with 16 points while Yockers finished with eight while also bringing in four offensive rebounds.

The Saints seemed to struggle early in the first half playing man-to-man defense, a defense that they rarely use, while the Knights featured a screen heavy offense.

“We are not that good at it quite frankly. When we switched to zone we found our rhythm and our groove,” Crotts said. “We didn’t play very well at all on defense tonight. It’s something as a coach you always want to go back and say alright now we know what we have to work on.”

The Knights got off to a good start scoring the game’s first six points. Khristian Trotter scored six of the team’s first 10. Both the Saints and the Knights traded baskets and ended the first quarter with the Knights leading 15-12. The Knights led by as many as five points in the first half.

Shelton and Enfinger started to take control late in the second quarter and sparked a 9-0 run to give them a 33-29 half-time lead. The two seniors continued their momentum into the second half when they started another a run that saw them reel of 14 straight points.

The Saints outscored the Knights 42-15 in the second half to secure the conference victory.

The Knights finished with two players in double figures including Trotter who finished with a team high 20 points. Wyatt Lockwood finished with 10.
