ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Central Christian School Saints of the Panhandle Christian Conference are now seven games into their 2013 baseball schedule.

Although the team has struggled out of the gate there is sign of hope for the Saints players and their fans. As of March 20 the Saints sit at 1-6 in the early season with their only win coming against conference rival Atmore Christian School.

“We are in a rebuilding mode this season,” Saints head coach Steve Davis said. “We only have two seniors and the rest of them are juniors and sophomores.”

Seniors Alex Davis and Timmy Shelton will be relied on heavily to get the season going in the right direction.

“Our hitting is probably our biggest strength. We swing the bats pretty well,” Davis said. “Our pitching is a little weak this year but like I said we are rebuilding.”

The biggest evidence this season showing where the Saints are this season happened on March 16 when they traveled to Atmore to play Escambia Academy.

Starting pitcher Alex Davis finished the game with 19 strikeouts but the Saints could not close out the game with a win.

Even with the tough start to the season and the fact that they are rebuilding, Davis still believes his team can win the conference as long as they play baseball the right way.

“I still expect us to win our conference. I expect us to attend the Final Four and win that as well. We are still rebuilding, but we still have some pretty good ball players who want to win,” Davis said.

The Saints still have time this season to turn things around. They still have 13 games to play not including two dates on their schedule where they will participate in the Emmanuel Tournament on March 22 and 23.

The regional Tournament will take place on April 26-27 with the Final Four taking place on May 3-4.
