Beginning in November and going through New Years Day, our kitchens are filled with an assortment of cookies, cakes, pies and other yummy desserts and fresh fruit is not always the first thing we reach for.
But for Dawn Hopper’s Family and Consumer Science classes at Central Baldwin Middle School, they have been busy selling “Florida’s Best” Fresh Florida Citrus throughout the month of November to those in the community who want an alternative to the “sweet” stuff.
“November 29 was our last day to order and we have sold over 200 bushels. We are very pleased with the amount we have sold and very grateful to those in the community who have supported us and bought fruit,” Hopper said.
Orders will be delivered beginning on Monday, December 13 and throughout the week, Hopper said, and can be picked up at the school or delivered to the reciepients home.
Offering an assortment of Navel oranges, grapefruit, tangelos, tangerines, juice oranges, Red Delicious apples and Di Anjou pears in different gift combinations as well as peanuts, cashews, pecans (chocolate covered, toasted, salted, honey roasted), peanut brittle, butter toffee peanuts, mixed nuts, almonds (roasted, salted, smoked), :southern friend” peanuts and honey krunch peanuts, there is something for every taste.
Hopper said students were encouraged to get 20 people to order and those who sold items will be treated to a field trip at Strike City Lanes in Bay Minette on Friday, December 17.
“Students who sold more than 10 boxes will receive $1 per box, so if they sold more than 60 boxes, they will receive $50 cash,” Hopper said.
All money raised from the sales go toward funding extracurricular activities at CBMS, Hopper said.
