The morning of Saturday, Feb. 22, was fruitful across South Baldwin County as three communities hosted Arbor Day celebrations.
In Foley, residents headed to Foley Senior Center for the 33rd annual event. While there, they could get free saplings from a variety of trees from members of Boy Scout Troop 77, get tips from representatives from Baldwin County Master Gardeners and paint pots at the Home Depot craft table. Plus, Mayor John Koniar dedicated a Southern magnolia tree to the memory of late Foley resident Mary K. Krawford. The tree will be placed in a memorial tree grove at Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
At Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department, town residents had similar activities. But instead of a craft booth, the day included a skit performed by children who frequent Magnolia Springs Library.
Manwhile, Elberta’s tree giveaway was complemented by a treat of free coffee, hot chocolate and baked goodies offered in the park’s gazebo.
