Mabel Clare Harris Causey, 102, died Saturday, July 21, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Theodore and Nellie Lee Dean Harris and two brothers.

She was born in Eliska and moved to Birmingham at age 10. After graduating from Ensley High School in 1922 and Howard College in 1925, she taught government at Hueytown High School and ended her teaching career in 1970 after 45 years.

She touched many lives as shown by how her students kept in touch with her. Her 102nd birthday party was attended by several former students.

She dedicated her life to our savior Jesus Christ and served in the Women’s Missionary Union at the Pike Avenue Baptist Church in Birmingham for many years. At age 80, Mabel moved to Robertsdale where she was active in the First Baptist Church and the Robertsdale Garden Club.

She spent the remainder of her life at Homestead Assisted Living in Fairhope where she had wonderful caregivers.

Survivors include a sister Margaret Dean (Percy) Maynord; nephews Chris (Connie) Maynord, Steve (Beverly) Maynord and Harris (Denise) Maynord; five grandnieces and one grand nephew, and many cousins who have been extremely special to her.

Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m., with funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the scholarship fund at Hueytown High School Alumni Association, PO Box 3087, Hueytown, AL 35023 or Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL 35236.
