Cathy Louise Seales Lang, born June 29, 1951 in Bay Minette to the late Mr. and Mrs. John (Annie) Seales, departed this life Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at 2:20 p.m., at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was one of 12 children.
Cathy’s commitment to Christ began at an early age, and her spiritual journey and church affiliation endured for a lifetime. She was a member of the Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church for approximately 30 years, where she served her church in numerous capacities.
Cathy was a professional accountant and businesswoman. She was an alumnus of Douglasville High School and Alabama A&M. While attending these institutions, she was involved in many extracurricular activities.
After graduating from Alabama A&M, she pursued a career in accounting with Marathon Oil Co. in Houston, Texas. Following her 25-year tenure with Marathon, Cathy joined Valero Oil Co. and became an independent beauty consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc.
After a short time with Valero Oil, she began working for the Houston Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) until the chapter closed. Cathy also worked as a volunteer, campaigning for Ron Reynolds, state of Texas representative for District 27, but was later hired as an employee for his local office until her passing.
Cathy received many awards, honors and accolades during her lifetime. She participated with various organizations. She was a member of the Social Organization, Top Ladies of Distinction Houston and was a volunteer of the Jazz Education Inc. Houston (youth musical training).
Cathy also held the office of treasurer for the NAACP Missouri City and Vicinity.
In September 1974, Cathy was united in matrimony to Ed Lang. This union was blessed with two sons, Ed Lang II and Jon Howard, who were the apple of their mother’s eye.
Cathy leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 37 years, Ed Lang; her dear sons, Ed Lang II (Tarnish) and Jon Howard (Kai) of Pearland, Texas; one stepson, Cortes of Huntsville, Ala.; six grandchildren, Kelian, Kaina, Kaci Lang, Jon Howard Lang II, Evan and Erika; seven sisters, Shirley Bussey of Carson, Calif., Helen Henry (Jonathan) of Newark, Del., Virginia Barnes of Carson, Calif., Brenda Smith (Jerome) of Cordova, Tenn., Kimberly Seales of Cordova, Tenn., Karen Seales of Cordova, Tenn. and Yvonne Seales of Latham, Ala.; four brothers, John Seales Jr. of Bay Minette, Samuel Seales (Annie Sharon) of Junction City, Kan., Charles Seales of Los Angeles, Calif. and Christopher Seales of Latham, Ala.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Zion Fountain A.M.E. Zion Church, Stockton. Burial will follow in John Seales Cemetery, Lathan, Ala.
