Casey Scott remembered for kindness, creativity and community spirit

When Island Fiber came to Orange Beach, often the first smiling face customers would see was Casey Scott. Even when it wasn't necessarily his job after he moved into sales.

"I was still calling him first," local artist and Scott's friend Nick Cantrell said. "In fact, he was working to have fiber installed at my new shop."

Scott, who began battling medical issues in October 2025 including cancer complicated by pneumonia, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, after collapsing at home the previous day, his wife, Samantha, said in a social media post.

"On Friday morning, Casey went into cardiac arrest," Samantha Scott said. "A CT scan on Saturday morning confirmed that he had suffered a traumatic brain injury. He passed peacefully yesterday afternoon with us at his side."

His passing brought an outpouring of heartfelt remembrances from those in the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores communities who were touched by seeing his happy face, being in his good company and recognizing his willingness to help.

"I said the exact same thing to my husband this morning," Cam Catone Price said. "He was there for us right after Sally. A wonderful soul lost."

"This is a hard one," Coastal Arts Center Director Desiree Hodge posted. "Our hearts are broken into pieces. Rest easy sweet friend … you will be missed and remembered always with such deep affection."

When not working or spending time with his boys and Samantha, Scott was also a painter with acrylics as his medium. Pets were a specialty.

Cantrell, a regionally known watercolor artist, was helping Scott set up sites to sell his artwork. He shared a link where Scott's art can be purchased.

"I had printed a couple of items for him recently on my new Canon, and we talked websites/art business stuff," Cantrell posted. "He was excited to have recently created his new art site, and that's why I was sharing it."

Two days before he died, Scott posted a lengthy synopsis of his medical battles during the past year, including having his heart shocked back into rhythm after a biopsy. And after all he had survived in the previous year, he was now looking forward to seeing Samantha compete in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 1.

"So yes… how is Casey doing?" he posted about himself. "He's wonderful. He's fantastic. He's a full year tomorrow past where he could've been. Every single morning when I wake up, I thank God for another day. Every morning, every day is important, I learned that very quickly."

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. Casey Scott was 48.
