Carl “Rodger” Hagstrom of Elberta passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 in Longview, Texas, where he spent the last five months with his son Chris and his family.

Rodger, born in Jamestown, N.Y. was 84.

Rodger graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947 and was valedictorian of his class.

He held a B.S. degree in mathematics from St. Lawrence University in New York and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic in New York.

He received his master’s of business administration in industrial management at the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce in Philadelphia.

He last worked at the Curtiss-Wright Corp. of Buffalo as the manager of operations of their extrusion facility.

Rodger was an avid boatsman. A 27-year member of the U.S. Power Squadron and founding member of the Perdido Bay Power Squadron, Rodger was the third commander in 1997 and 1998.

He earned 14 merit marks from the U.S. Coast Guard for his service to the squadron while holding various positions and educating members.

He was a member of the Optimists of Elberta, and tutored math to students in the local schools.

He was preceded in death by Jean Hagstrom.

Surviving are his brother, Dr. Robert A. Hagstrom of Ashville, N.Y.; six children, Carl R. Hagstrom Jr. of Universal City, Texas, Anne Greenwald of Midlothian, Va., Susan Hagstrom of Buffalo, N.Y., Chris Hagstrom of Longview, Texas, Mary Alexander of El Ciruelo, Panama and Curt Hagstrom of Aubrey, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation will not be observed. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Lillian United Methodist Church.

Private family services will be held at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola, where he will be interned next to his previous wife, Alyne Hanks Wilcox of Pensacola.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Southeast Works, 181 Lincoln St., Depew, N.Y.
