DAPHNE, Ala.—The Area Agency on Aging will partner with the city of Daphne to host the ninth annual Family Caregivers Conference 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the Daphne Civic Center.

November is National Family Caregivers Month, National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Hospice Month. There are more than 60 million caregivers in the country, and the conference hopes to celebrate and honor family caregivers for their care of loved ones, the agency stated.

Admission to the event is free and covers breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

Blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings will be available for attendees from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.  Seasonal influenza and pneumonia vaccines also will be available at this time.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be presentations on numerous topics, including “Medicare 2011 Update”; “PACE-Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly”; “TeleHealth”; “Evidence Based Programs for Health and Wellness”; and “Legal Concerns for Caregivers.”

“We would hope that people would come out and learn about what’s available in their community and access the services available to them,” Gwen Gay, president of the Area Agency on Aging, said.

“One of the things we are offering is in-home care so the caregivers can come out. We want the caregivers to be able to come out and network and find other recourses, so they’re able to meet their needs as well as the needs of their loved ones.”

The agency hopes to have 250 people throughout the event.

RSVP deadline is Oct. 29.
