Car show organizers hope for clear weather

SILVERHILL — Frankie Kucera is praying for good weather on Saturday when the Silverhill Oscar Johnson Library presents the Fifth Annual Antique Classic Car and Truck Show at the town square on the corner of Highway 104 and County Road 55.

While a few entries have trickled in, Kucera said, most will register on Saturday, weather permitting.

“If the weather is good, we’ll have a good turnout,” said Kucera, who is the president of the Library Board of Directors and organizer of the annual event.

Last year, the weather was good, and so was the turnout with 126 cars entered and Kucera hopes there will be a large number of cars and trucks for public view this year.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Food and drink will be provided by the Silverhill Covenant Church.

The Silverhill Library, United Bank and Silverhill Antiques will also be open for the public to visit. All three buildings are listed on the National Historic Register.

There will be 83 awards presented to the participating car owners, along with door prizes.

The event, now in its fifth year, has been a successful one for the library, Kucera said, raising over $10,000 in its first four year.

“It’s been a good fundraiser for us,” he said. “It’s been a lot of work, but it’s been very rewarding.
