Captain Q’s in Robertsdale offers mix of local, traditional Vietnamese flavor

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Captain Q’s Seafood Market and Restaurant in Robertsdale offers a bit of traditional local seafood with a little Vietnamese flavor mixed in.

The new business held a ribbon cutting with the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, March 2 and owners Richard Dinh and his wife Katie Nguyen, along with her brother, Quan “Captain Q” Nguyen, say they are looking forward to bringing something unique to the area while being a part of the community.

“We appreciate everything the community has done for us and are looking forward to giving back,” said Dinh before Wednesday’s ribbon cutting.

Natives of Vietnam, Katie Nguyen said her family has lived in the Mobile area for the last 21 years. While they have been involved in the seafood industry in that time, this is their first foray into the restaurant business.

“My husband and my brother both love to cook,” said Nguyen, who also owns a nail salon in Robertsdale, “so when this opportunity presented itself, we decided to go for it. We want to bring a little bit of local flavor with our own traditions.”

The menu features a mix of seafood, beef and chicken dishes, mixed with rice or pho, which is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup, with prices ranging for $7.95 to $9.25. Eggrolls are also available for $4.99, along with crab rangoons for 50 cents each.

Captain Q’s also offers a variety of po boy sandwiches, served with fries, ranging from $6.99 for a half-sandwich to $11.99 for a full oyster po boy, along with plate lunches, served with sides, including onion rings, hush puppies, Cole slaw or potato salad, steamed corn or steamed potatoes. You can also buy shrimp, crab claws, oysters or popcorn shrimp cooked by the pound.

Captain Q’s also features a variety of fresh seafood from shrimp, oysters and crab to a variety of fish brought in daily, Nguyen said, from her uncle in Bayou La Batre.

Captain Q’s is located in the former Baldwin County Council on Aging building at 22272 Highway 59 N. in Robertsdale and is open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
