Cancer benefit to defray treatment costs

BAY MINETTE — A benefit is slated Nov. 28 at Cliff’s Landing River Pub to help defray medical expenses for breast-cancer patient Kim Dougherty.

The benefit begins at noon and will continue throughout the afternoon. There will be  several raffles, live music and barbecue plates.

Dougherty, 41, of Perdido, is a single mother battling breast cancer for the second time. She recently completed chemotherapy and is recovering from another surgery, according to Beth Childs, one of the benefit organizers.

She will begin 42 treatments of radiation before Christmas.

“Kim has outrageous medical bills, not to mention her bills of every day life that keep mounting due to her illness and inability to meet financial obligations,” Childs said.

Barbecue plates will be sold for $5. Early orders can be placed by calling (251) 937-5100.

A benefit fund has been opened at RBC  Bank in Bay Minette.
