LOXLEY — Global stainless steel pipe manufacturer Butting has announced plans to establish its North American headquarters and first U.S. production facility in Baldwin County.
The project will be executed in two strategic phases, totaling a $61 million capital investment and creating up to 100 jobs with wages well above the Baldwin County average.
Founded in 1777 and headquartered in Knesebeck, Germany, Butting is an internationally recognized leader in stainless steel pipe technology, clad pipes, customized spools and components, as well as cryogenic pipe and valve technology systems. The company currently operates in Germany, Finland, Brazil, Canada and China and is now establishing a presence in the United States. The new Loxley facility will be constructed on a 50-plus acre site in the established Loxley industrial corridor.
“Our decision to locate in Baldwin County was driven by the area’s overall attractiveness to live and work, a skilled labor force, proximity to key transportation routes and welcoming business environment,” said Adrian Rochofski, CEO managing director of Butting USA. “We’re excited to grow our footprint in the United States and call Loxley our home in North America.”
Phase One of the project will consist of establishing Butting’s North American headquarters, engineering functions, the fabrication of high-quality stainless-steel spools as well as cryogenic pipe systems. Phase Two will see the integration buildout of the U.S. production operations, the integration of two of the latest stainless steel welded pipe mills, expansion of the company’s portfolio of cryogenic production and expanded fabrication capabilities to further serve key industrial sectors across the United States.
As part of the site selection process, Marcel Bartels, Butting Global CEO, visited Baldwin Preparatory Academy, where he toured the school’s laboratories alongside students. Bartels participated in hands-on activities and engaged directly with the students.
“Baldwin Prep is already doing the kind of training that they want to see at Butting,” said Lee Lawson, Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance president and CEO. “We are going to have skilled workers that take initiative and a pipeline of workers coming out of Baldwin Prep.”
The official launch of Phase 1 is expected this fall, with construction and hiring increasing within the next few weeks.
“We’re honored to welcome Butting to Loxley,” Loxley Mayor Richard Teal said. “This is a historic project for our community, bringing new opportunities, long-term investment and international recognition to our city and our people.”
The project marks a milestone in Baldwin County’s rise as a focus point for advanced manufacturing and international business. Butting’s arrival brings not only high-wage jobs but also contributes to building a long-term industrial base and reinforcing Baldwin County’s role in the global supply chain. Economic development officials said the project is the result of years of coordinated investment in infrastructure, workforce training and business recruitment and that they consider Butting’s decision a strong indicator of Baldwin County’s growing appeal to international manufacturers.
“Butting’s decision to invest in our community is not just a win for economic development — it’s a win for our county,” said Billie Jo Underwood, District 3 commissioner for the Baldwin County Commission, representing the central Baldwin cities of Loxley, Robertsdale, Silverhill and Summerdale. “This new facility will bring quality jobs to our citizens and contribute to improving the quality of life for many here in Baldwin County.”
