GULF SHORES, Ala. — As he brushes off the sugar white sand and gathers his Hawaiian shirt, Sandy Claws will make one last appearance in the Gulf Shores area.
The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is proud to have this special guy visit all the good little children during the Annual Kid’s Sandy Claws Christmas party.
The festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The first 100 children will receive a special gift from Sandy Claws. All guests receive $1 off each ticket all day long.
Children will receive a gift from Sandy Claws and refreshments.
The public is welcome to take pictures with Sandy Claws, but please remember to bring your camera.
Take a moment to play Santa by visiting the zoo’s Animal Angel Tree, which is located in the gift shop. This tradition enables friends of the zoo to purchase items for select animals, such as a frozen turkey for Rajah, a white Bengal tiger, or new or used toddler toys for the ring tail lemurs.
Become the envy of your family and friends with a one-of-a-kind Christmas photo by enjoying a hands-on tiger encounter with two snowy white Bengal tiger cubs. These oh-so soft animals are on loan from the world renowned Marcan Tiger Preserve.
These unique opportunities are scheduled daily at 10:30 and 11 a.m., and 2:30 and 3 p.m. from Dec. 7 through Jan. 4.
Tiger encounters are for children ages 4 years old and up. The cost is $25 for children ages 4-12, and $50 for adults.
Reservations are required and may be made by calling 968-4910.
If the search for that perfect gift has taken you around the world, why not check out the zoo’s gift shop in person or online? Peruse the bounty, which ranges from clothing for all members of the family to coffee mugs to a coveted DVD collection.
Last month, the zoo released “The Little Zoo That Could” Limited Collector’s Edition four-DVD boxed set, which captures almost 14 hours of the prime time Animal Planet series.
As always, tax-deductible donations of any amount are welcome as the zoo gathers funds to build a new facility on 25 acres that were donated in July 2006 by Clyde Weir and his daughter, Andrea Weir Franklin.
The zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admits the last guest at 3:30.
Admission is $10 for adults (ages 13-54), $8 for seniors (55+) and $7 for children (ages 3-12).
Children 2 years of age and under are admitted free of charge.
