GULF SHORES, Ala. — Brent Burns, official music ambassador of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau, and a twice-wounded Purple Heart combat veteran who has the distinction of being the first American entertainer, to perform for troops overseas after the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, will be the guest speaker at the Gulf Shores First Presbyterian Church's monthly Men and Women’s Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 8 a.m.
Burns gained a widespread following by pooling his political beliefs, and his musical talent with his totally unique sense of humor.
In response to the oil shortage of the 1970s and ’80s Burns wrote the song and video “Pain At the Pump.” After the video was posted on YouTube, CNN interviewed Burns and used his video in their special “4 Bucks! What's Next? America's Fuel Crisis.”
Burns also wrote the hit song “Cheaper Crude or No More Food.” The song sold 200,000 copies the day it was released, and climbed the Billboard charts after radio commentator Paul Harvey played it three times. It was the first and only song played on his program in his nearly 50 years of radio broadcasting.
A portion of Burns’ CD sales go to charities, including the American Cancer Society, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and Habitat for Humanity.
Burns’ Habitat tribute song, “Build Them a House,” is available for free download at www.brentburns.com.
He recently hosted a successful New Years Eve event to benefit the Christian Service Center.
The First Presbyterian Church is located at 309 E. 21st Ave. which is one long block east of Highway 59, between Dolphin Avenue and East 21st Avenue.
