GULF SHORES, Ala. — Due to concerns over the effects of Tropical Storm Alex, the Jimmy Buffett concert in Gulf Shores has been postponed to July 11.
The concert was to take place on the main beach in Gulf Shores Thursday, but increased surf conditions are posing a threat to the foundation of the yet-to-be constructed stage, according to a press release from Mayor Robert Craft.
"This is a disappointment, obviously," Craft said at an early evening press conference in Gulf Shores on Monday. "But Jimmy Buffett is still coming to the Gulf Coast on July 11 and tickets will be honored at that time.
We will look forward to his being here later."
While Tropical Storm Alex is projected to make landfall in Texas, officials believe "the increased water inundation at the beach is not conducive to keeping the large stage stable in the sand," the press release states.
Herb Malone, CEO of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau, said condo and hotel cancellation due to the postponement will be handled on an individual basis.
