Brown honored on 80th birthday

Posted

Last Saturday, Feb. 20, a special birthday celebration was held for Rosetta Brown at Bay Minette Civic Center. She celebrated her 80th birthday and it was great. It consisted of a full course lunch of fried catfish, ham, turkey, corn, green beans, dressing, gravy, macaroni and cheese, peach cobbler, potato salad, green salad, ice cream, cake, punch, tea and bottled water.

The honoree and the family were all decked out in red and the Civic Center was decorated in red. I must say that everything was so nice and Mrs. Rosette most certainly does not appear to be 80 years old. You would never guess it by looking at her. She is still just as beautiful as she was when I was a little girl. God is and has been good to her.

Appearing on the program was her pastor, the Rev. Johnnie Coleman Sr., who did prayer, Lucille Jones sang a solo; yours truly, Ethel Higgins also sang a solo, “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Her son, the Rev. William Brown Jr., did reflections. Serving as emcee was Dr. Ullyses McBride who also did the welcome.

Lots of family members and friends were on hand to share in this special day. All of her children were there and wasted no time in going around the room greeting and thanking everyone for being there. They also had complimentary  gifts for everyone.

Again, I say happy 80th birthday to you, Mrs. Rosette and pray that God will continue to keep His angels around about you.

The delicious food was catered by Kendall Gunn and Backyard Cafe in Mobile.

We ask that you keep the second Sunday in March open as (YIC) Youth in Christ will host their annual Heritage Program at Union Baptist Church at 3 p.m. That will be March 14 at 3 p.m. Barbara Brown is the youth director.

Let’s keep praying for our young people and the schools. The devil doesn’t want them to learn and will do all he can to prevent them from being knowledgeable — on the other hand we must do all we can to ensure they get the best education possible. The teachers need encouraging as well as the students. We must remember school is nothing like it was when most of us were going. We must also religiously educate our children so they will know how to conduct themselves in a Christian manner. This helps them to know that we must do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Maybe we can work on this. It will help make the world a better place to live.

Until next week, I’ve got a question for you.  What if tomorrow never comes? Are you ready to not only stand before God but are you ready to hear your verdict and what will it be?
