Merlin A. Brockhoeft, 84, died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Touro Hospital after a brief illness.

He retired from the New Orleans Board of Trade as a grain inspector. He was a Pearl Harbor survivors and served 15 years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. He was a member of VFW Post 351, Knights of Columbus 2926 and American Legion Post 307.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Brockhoeft and Bertha Betbeze Brockhoeft, son, Merlin August Brockhoeft Jr., a brother, John Brockhoeft; and wife, Agnes Duet Brockhoeft.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie R. Brockhoeft; children, Jorge Roy, Joan Mary, Alfred August, Gladys Marie and Lauren Jochum; siblings, Vivian Berggren, Marilyn Risey, Lawrence Brockhoeft and Jackie Brockhoeft; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; first wife and mother of his children, Silvia Sanchez.

A funeral Mass was held Thursday, June 7 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
