Margaret Thompson Briggs, 79, a native of Monroeville and a resident of Gulf Shores, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at home.
She attended the University of Alabama and obtained her degree in education. She taught high school in Mobile and Baldwin counties for 27 years; the last six she taught home economics at Foley High School before retiring.
She was a Master Gardener, a founding member of the Emerald Coast Women’s Club, an active member of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the Baldwin County Christian Services. Her dedication to volunteerism was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ben Burrus Briggs; four children, Cynthia (Walter) Clevenstine of Wexford, Pa., Katherine (Michael) Howell of Kennesaw, Ga., David Briggs of Daphne and Patti (Robert) Thomas of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren, Bethany Clevenstine, Paul Clevenstine, Rachael Howell, Stephanie Howell and Zachary Briggs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church.
