Baldwin County officials held a press conference today (Aug. 15) to discuss the ongoing investigation into the robbery of Spanish Fort businessman Bobby Wilson, who was brutally beaten Saturday morning.
Baldwin County District Attorney Judy Newcomb, along with various law enforcement officials and friends and family of Wilson, gathered in front of the Spanish Fort Police Department.
Newcomb said officials are currently reviewing footage taken from surveilance cameras that are directed toward the road at businesses in Spanish Fort, Daphne and Stapleton.
Newcomb is urging people who were traveling from Wilson's gas station toward Timber Creek between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday to call Spanish Fort police in order to be ruled out as a suspect in the attack.
Newcomb said those responsible may have traveled north on Highway 31. She said physical evidence is still being processed and the results have not yet come in.
Jeff Mosley, said his grandfather is still in critical condition.
“Prayers have been heard,” Mosley said with tears in his eyes.
Ricky Richardson, who represented the “Friends of Bobby Wilson” fund, said the group has raised $32,000 to be used for a reward, and will continue to raise funds.
Newcomb said in order to claim the reward, tipsters must not remain anonymous. However, if you don’t want the reward, tips will still be acted on, she said.
Spanish Fort Police Chief David Edgar said the tip line will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and urges people to call, whether people deem it important or not. All tips will be actively pursued and followed, he said.
Persons with any information can call the anonymous tip line at (251) 990-4673, or the SFPD at (251) 621-9100.
Additional information was not released.
"We are not in a position right now to discuss the investigation," Newcomb said. "To discuss the investigation will hamper the investigation."
Law enforcment investigating the case include the Baldwin County District Attorney's office, Spanish Fort Police, Violent Crimes Task Force, the Daphne Police Department, The Loxley Police Department, the Bay Minette Police Department and the Alabama Attorney General's office.
