Bodies identified from fatal Florida-to-Gulf Shores flight crash

Gulf Shores Police Department (GSPD) has identified the victims of the fatal private plane crash that occurred Saturday evening in Bon Secour Bay.

The bodies of Dana Ruehle, 64, and Jon George, 68, were recovered by GSPD’s Marine Unit officers around 7 p.m. on Saturday as officers responded to the aircraft’s last known radar location and found debris field in the water.

As previously reported by GCM, the aircraft, a Beechcraft Bonanza A36, departed Palm Coast Florida and was on approach to land at Gulf Shores International Airport when it went down approximately an hour and 20 minutes later, according to tracking information from the ADS-B Exchange.

Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, Orange Beach Police Department, Oyster Bay Fire Department, Daphne Search and Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted in a search of the surrounding area.

According to Gulf Shores Police Department Detective Carl Wittsruck,  while some of the debris that was on or near the surface of the water was recovered following the crash Saturday night, most of the debris remains submerged, but was mapped by Daphne Search & Rescue Unit and will be recovered early next week.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragic event. We extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time,” GSPD said in a statement.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation.

Anyone who spots debris in the area is asked to call GSPD at 251-968-2431. Do not collect or disturb any debris.
