From 80 different kinds of beads to a variety of parade throws, Bob’s Discount Hardware in Robertsdale is a one-stop shop for everything Mardi Gras.
This hardware store, which opened 20 years ago, teams up with Toomey’s in Mobile, AKA “the Mardi Gras place,” to sell items for the season in addition to the usual tools and supplies.
Casey Myers, owner of Bob’s Discount Hardware, said Toomey’s used to have pop-up stores in Daphne or Spanish Fort but stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then in 2023, Myers decided to reach out and ask if they would want to partner.
Now, Bob’s is the only Baldwin County location for Toomey’s and gets about seven truckloads of goods per season.
“We probably have close to 80 different kinds of beads; we have hundreds of different kinds of throws; we have a 50-foot aisle of nothing but decorations,” he said. “It’s light up balls, hand-strung necklaces, Moon Pies. I mean, this probably is about at least three aisles' worth of stuff.”
Residents from just about every municipality swing by to pick up parade necessities, Myers said.
He also has customers who celebrate in and travel from Pensacola and even Dothan, which is about three hours away from the store. Myers said Dothan has “become a good Mardi Gras spot.”
“There’s so much going on, and we’re just glad to be a part of that,” he said.
Bob’s Discount Hardware is open every day of the week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To see what’s for sale — Mardi Gras-related or not — in the roughly 14,000-square-foot building, check out their official Facebook page Bob’s Discount — Robertsdale.
