Five great area bluegrass bands — Wayfarers, Down Home, Kracker Dan, Alabama Gentlemen and High Cotton — donated their time and talent to perform at the Blakeley Bluegrass Festival Oct. 1. Also volunteering were Ken Morgan, who provided the sound system, Gayle Decker who was mistress of ceremonies, and David, Tommy, Keith, Kelley, and Linda who helped with the crowd and cooking and serving food. The media helped publicize the event.
These volunteer efforts were to help Blakeley State Park survive during the present funding crisis and to preserve traditional bluegrass music which has a large following. All proceeds went to toward operation of the park.
We appreciate the tremendous contribution of the bands and all the other volunteers and the loyal spectators and newcomers who enjoyed a day of beautiful fall weather and outstanding live music at one of Alabama’s very special places.
