Baldwin County Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood has officially launched her campaign for re-election to represent District 3, pledging to continue her focus on guided growth, infrastructure improvements, and responsible management of taxpayer dollars as the county experiences rapid growth, according to a news release.
“It has truly been an honor to serve the people of District 3 and all of Baldwin County,” Underwood said in the release. “Working alongside so many dedicated citizens and local leaders, we’ve made great progress in improving our roads and drainage, protecting our natural resources, and maintaining the quality of life that makes our county so special. I’m running for re-election to keep that momentum going and to ensure Baldwin County continues to grow wisely and responsibly.”
Underwood’s campaign has raised more than $71,000 from supporters across the county, showing strong early momentum and broad confidence in her leadership, per the release.
A lifelong Baldwin County resident, Underwood has served on the County Commission since 2018. She is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 40 years of experience in financial and tax accounting and is a partner in the family firm Giles, Underwood & Wilson, LLC in Summerdale, Ala., according to the release.
Underwood’s dedication to public service began long before her election to the commission. She previously served on the Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission and spent more than 20 years on the Town of Summerdale Planning Commission, helping shape local development and growth, per the release.
She and her husband of more than 35 years, Gary Underwood, a Foley native and local pecan grower, own and operate Underwood Pecan Farm in Summerdale.
As a Republican elected countywide, Underwood has supported initiatives to modernize county subdivision regulations, strengthen environmental protections, and ensure county finances are managed responsibly. She has expanded road and drainage projects, improved solid waste and recycling services, and planned for long-term infrastructure needs in both rural and fast-growing areas, per the release. She has also backed major economic development projects, including Novelis at the South Alabama Mega Site, a project expected to bring thousands of jobs and billions in investment.
Underwood has worked closely with fellow commissioners, municipal leaders, community organizations, and state officials to maintain Baldwin County as a place where families, farmers, and businesses can thrive.
“My priorities remain the same,” she said. “Smart, guided growth that protects our rural character. Strong infrastructure that supports our communities. And open, transparent government that listens to the people. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there’s still more work to do — and I’m ready to continue serving Baldwin County.”
