Betty Jean Diedtrich, 73, born in the Dyas community and a resident of Bay Minette, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.
She was a preschool teacher at Happy Times Preschool.
She was a member of Halls Fork Assembly of God Church for 55-plus years, where she served as church secretary for many years and a Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Waldermar W. “Wally” Diedtrich of Bay Minette; her children, Sylvia Marie (James Curtis) Joiner of Bay Minette, Rita Kay (Billy) Findley of Bay Minette, Pamela Mechelle (Barry) Thompson of Bay Minette and Amy Lynn (Shenandoah) McLaurin of Monroeville; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Shane (Meg) Diedtrich of Woodstock, Ga., James Diedtrich “J.D.” Joiner and Hayden Bryce Thompson, both of Bay Minette, and Andrew James McLaurin, Elliana Claire McLaurin and Emilee Catherine McLaurin, all of Monroeville; a great-granddaughter, Leigh Margaret Diedtrich; brothers and sisters, James D. “Jimmy” (Lois) Hollingsworth of Dyas, Ollie Rayford (Bettigray) Hollingsworth of Dyas, JoAnn (Buddy) Byrd of Stapleton and Janet (Steve) Caraway of Pine Grove; aunt, Laura “Blackie” Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wesley “Buster” and Leila Allean “Bea” Hollingsworth and a brother, George H. Hollingsworth.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at 2 p.m., at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette, with the Rev. Wendell Hadley and Sister Helen Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, from 6 until 9 p.m., at Norris Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mack Byrd, Marc Byrd, Brandon “B.J.” Byrd, Rickey Hollingsworth, Brian Hollingsworth and Bart Hollingsworth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bro. Michael Hadley and Bro. Joey Brown.
