SCAM ALERT: Best of Baldwin winners advised to watch for unaffiliated offers

Posted

Winners and participants of Gulf Coast Media's Best of Baldwin reader's choice contest should be aware of unaffiliated offers targeting them.

With the conclusion of the 2025 contest and the announcement of winners, some companies may attempt to sell plaques or certificates, despite having no connection to Gulf Coast Media. Winners should exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any communication regarding the contest to ensure they are not misled.

On Feb. 20, hundreds of winners gathered at the Best of Baldwin 2025: Red Carpet Event, sponsored by Sandy Sansing, to celebrate their victories and achievements.

But as the excitement continues, Gulf Coast Media is reminding honorees that some companies may reach out offering plaques or certificates — despite having no connection to the contest.

Editorial Assistant and Promotions Manager Whisper Edwards emphasized that the contest is always free to enter and that winners do not need to pay for recognition.

“Best of Baldwin has always been about celebrating the best of our community, and that means keeping it accessible to everyone,” Edwards said. “There’s no cost to enter, no cost to win and no cost to receive your award — now or ever.”

Each year, outside companies not affiliated with Gulf Coast Media contact winners with offers to purchase plaques, certificates or other recognitions. Edwards clarified that while some of these businesses may provide an actual product, they are not officially connected to the Best of Baldwin awards.

“If you’re being asked to buy an award, it’s not from us,” Edwards said. “Every year, we see companies that have no connection to Gulf Coast Media trying to sell plaques and certificates to winners. Gulf Coast Media provides every winner with a framed certificate and window cling for free, and any company asking for payment is not affiliated with us in any way.”

All Best of Baldwin winners are featured in Gulf Coast Media’s glossy magazine, now available, and each honoree receives a framed certificate and window cling at no cost. The contest is designed to be an inclusive, community-driven competition, open to all regardless of subscription status or financial means.

To verify any communication regarding the contest, individuals can contact your Gulf Coast Media advertising representative, email Gulf Coast Media at promotions@gulfcoastmedia.com or call (251) 943-2151.
