ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – Coming off the holiday break, the Robertsdale Bears (11-6) extended their win streak to five games in Tuesday night’s game against the Foley Lions (2-10). The Bears slaughtered the Lions in their first area game 71-46.
Robertsdale took the lead after the first two-point field goal and never lost it. The Bears led by as many as 29 points.
Senior Kent Langham finished with 16 points. A new addition to the team, sophomore Donnie Casey, followed Langham with 12 points.
With four players deciding to leave the team after the break, Robertsdale head coach Marshall Davis brought up several junior varsity players to fill the depleted roster, including Casey.
“The JV players stepped up big for us tonight,” Davis said. “They were a little slower, but they will get used to the pace of the game in time. [However,] they maintained the lead and helped carry the team.”
With junior Dionta Banks out on injury, the Bears began the game with pace. The Bears ended the first period with a 22-7 lead.
“The coaches and I wanted to try to create a new environment,” said Davis. “We challenged the players to get 20 points in the first [period]. They played hard and got the job done.”
The Bears face off against the Fairhope Pirates (11-5) in Robertsdale on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
