The 6th annual Be My Valentine fundraiser for Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast will take place Sunday, Feb. 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Post 99 American Legion, 2101 South McKenzie St.
The event will feature a $10,000 door prize, live and silent auctions, lunch and music by Tom Gordon. Tickets can be purchased online at www.maryssheltergulfcoast.org or by calling (251) 986-6351.
Mary’s Shelter provides housing for homeless pregnant women who choose life for their unborn children. Since opening in 2006, the shelter has housed dozens of mothers, their newborns and older children. The 24-hour facility offers a safe home and counseling to help residents set goals for their future.
The shelter is expanding its services with a new transitional housing program. Three homes will soon be built to accommodate mothers and their children after leaving the shelter and provide a path to homeownership.
Volunteers support the shelter by providing transportation to doctor appointments, jobs and classes, helping with childcare and maintaining the facility. Volunteer opportunities are also available at Gulf Coast Thrift Store in Elberta. For more information, visit www.maryssheltergulfcoast.org or call (251) 986-6200.
